Apr 08 - 2014 Beautiful Women, Beautiful Rain!
Apr 08 - Nafsi starts NOW!
This journey really put into perspective the meaning of Mid, Body, Soul for me!
I was so fortunate to share my passion for Dance and movement with the beautiful community of Ngong, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda. So I share this description/mission statement of how I restore and rejuvenate my clients as best as I can with the skill set I have:
“to provide a welcoming atmosphere with a blend of physical, emotional and mental challenge that leaves one with the sense of accomplishment, satisfaction and rejuvenation. Starting with the basic Pilates principles of Breath, proper alignment, and core strengthening, that flow into the Dynamic stretching, arcing releases, arms swinging effortlessly, a flow of windy S shapes mixed with angular, percussive pauses of Simonson Dance Technique, followed by conditioning exercises for muscular strength, endurance and flexibility, as well as visualization and imagery work for neuromuscular re-pattering of CI Training, one will walk away with a body that feels relaxed, invigorated, and rejuvenated.
Imagine your Mind, Body, and Soul working as one to create balance within yourself as well as the unleashing of the stress, tension, and anxiety our minds and bodies hold on to on a daily basis to allow yourself the moment you have been waiting for, to feel that you are at peace to just let out a simple breath of “Ahhhhh.”
Mar 25 - The Star Card
I love what I do and I love that the people I teach are understanding it more and more. And after pulling this card today, I love that the universe keeps reminding me of this. . . . . .
The Star CardWhat has traditionally been known as the Star card is about reconnecting one’s Soul with the Divine — the transcending of personality, family, community and reputation. It has to do ultimately with the freedom to be one’s Self. The Soul is responding to celestial influences — forces that can provide the personality with a stronger sense of purpose. The Star card helps us to remember our exalted origins and our attraction to a Higher Union.
This card could also be called the “Celestial Mandate” — that which refers us back to our reason for being, our mission in this lifetime. The Star reminds us that, in a sense, we are agents of Divine Will in our day-to-day lives. If we let go of the idea that we are supposed to be in control, we can more easily notice and appreciate the synchronicities that are nudging us along. In this way, we become more conscious of the invisible Helping Hand, and we better understand our place within — and value to — the larger Cosmos.

Feb 03 - February 03rd, 2014
Here in canada we are celebrating One Billion Rising as well (we are celebrating this day later than everywhere else because in Canada Feb 14th is also the day the aboriginal women come together to have their voices heard about the highway of tears, so Canada chose to keep the days separate)
I am very passionate about women finding their voices and overcoming whatever it is that keeps them stuck in one place in life, whether it is divorce, rape, abuse, or just something as simple as being stuck in old patterns and habits. After my trip to Africa this Fall I realize the challenges women everywhere face, and we are very fortunate to have the resources available to confront these challenges face to face. I am looking to raise funds to support our local Women’s Centres to keep these programs running. Here is what the lay out looks like thus far:
The date is Saturday March 8th 2014. The layout would be Alexi Thomas and Her guitar player Adam performing an acoustic set around with a modern dance performance done to 2 of their songs on the dance floor, followed by a few songs played by the DJ that i have choreographed to and then it will pick up to some jazz/hip hop/possibly house dance and African and then there will be another live group performing along with some Afro?Brazilian dance and drums!

Dec 02 - Messages.
How often do we say or tell someone “Yes, everything happens for a reason?” or “It’s like someone is trying to tell me something?”
Chances are this is actually what is happening. . .
I speak from my personal story at this point in time because that is what I know. When a decision needs to be made to change your life in some way, shape or form these MESSAGES get louder and louder and more apparent. Have you ever noticed that when you didn’t listen to the message something went wrong? Maybe it is as simple as a flat tire, a parking ticket, you’ve rear ended someone at a stop light, your car got towed, anxiety, stomach ulcer, or you got shingles. It is amazing what the body will put itself through in order for you to understand the messages that are being thrown at it. It is amazing what the universe throws at you in order for you to understand the messages. Literally they are being thrown in your face. We can only take so many messages before we break down and have no choice but to deal with it right then and there.
What you need to ask yourself is can you see that there is a message staring you right in the face waiting to be answered? Can you let yourself be open enough to notice it when it comes up or are you “brushing it under the carpet?” We are very good at “brushing it under the carpet,” and when the carpet gets too bumpy from having so much shoved under it you are going to fall off those bumps and that’s when “the carpet has been pulled from under your feet.” We know these sayings and these quotes because they are said many times by people around us who have experienced it or have seen it with someone else. These sayings weren’t made up out of no where. . . It has happened to almost everyone in this world at least once and if not once than a thousand times.
How many times are we willing to let it happen to ourselves or someone we know and love before we all start listening?
After living literally “inside” my head and mind for a year my head exploded with shingles! I had no choice but to listen to what I thought the message was. I was in it whether I wanted to be or not, I could not move from my “sick bed” for a month. I wish I had more energy to have been able to meditate through that experience but I could barely get myself to the bathroom without falling down. There was so much internal thinking going on in my left brain which is often said to be more logical, analytical and objective, while the right brain is said to be more intuitive, thoughtful and subjective, that the my body could not take it anymore and that stress caused me to get very, very sick. I have always been “right brained”, but at this point in my life I was ignoring those “right brained” tendencies because I was so scared of the messages they were bringing me. CHANGE!! that was the message. I was not comfortable with this message because I was trying to live out the story that seemed so picture perfect.
Have you ever noticed that the “stories” we create are never actually Our True and Full story? They are the story we have created by listening to other people’s stories, parent’s stories, other adults in our lives who have all lived and created a similar story and we feel like that was successful for them so if we take those same steps to create a similar story we will be successful as well. Finish High School and go to College/University. Get the diploma and then get a job as close to your major or what your major was and get that job with benefits. Get that job with a retirement plan. Find a partner. When that partner is your serious partner get engaged. Get married. Get that house you’ve always wanted. Have those babies. Do these steps sound familiar?
Know this: these steps are not wrong at all, but have you ever thought about changing them up? Perhaps you had the babies first. Perhaps you had such an amazing job you didn’t want to leave and you didn’t go to College/University. What we need to remember is that just because someone else’s steps or process worked for them doesn’t mean they will work for us. We have to find our own steps. And those steps will change, you have to be prepared in life to know that things change, and when I think of change I remember this quote that one of my lovely and beautiful lady’s wears on her t shirt to my dance class on a regular basis: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” Charles Darwin
My message that I have heard loud and clear was this: I have a voice, you have a voice, we all have a voice and we should be heard. THis is what I heard. . . . Choice, Chance, and change. . . You have the choice to take a chance to make a change. Best few words I have heard and I recognize this more and more every day after being in Africa. Some people can’t find the choice because they are not given the same opportunity to challenge the ideas from the outside world. But I was fortunate enough to meet some beautiful and amazing women who took the chance to take the leap of faith that someone would be there to listen to their voice and accept them as they are: beautiful, powerful and strong in a place that they have to push past the odds of survival. Women. . . Educating. . . Empowering. . . This is what I know and this is what I learned while being in Kenya. After watching this most amazing speech I understand I am doing the right thing at the right time in my life because I listened to the messages.

Nov 06 - Today’s African Reminder. . .
When we think of how much space we take up having “things” and “possessions” think about what really makes you happy. It’s not those things necessarily. Who’s under the roof is the happiness, not the physical things. Family. . . . at the end of the day that is forever, not your couch, tv, or shoes.
